Does Bush = Hitler??
05.28.04 (1:59 pm) [edit]
Well.. I’ve heard it stated often enough that I thought I would treat the idea with the seriousness that it deserves and do a quick comparison.
1) Bush was an officer in the Texas National Guard Hitler was a Corporal in the German Army Kerry was the commander of a Swift Boat (in Vietnam)
2) Hitler was a vegetarian Bush is a Texan Kerry ate Navy food (in Vietnam)
3) Hitler wrote a book Kerry wrote a book.. Except for the parts of it he didn’t write Bush read some books in college Oh.. Kerry’s book is about Vietnam 4) People say that Bush should be impeached over ‘war crimes’ Kerry testified before the Senate that he committed ‘war crimes’ (in Vietnam) That Rat-bastard gave civilized people the reason we persecute real war crimes.
5) Kerry was wounded 3 times (in Vietnam) Bush got hurt worse falling off his bike Hitler gave himself a head wound with a pistol (to darn easy)
Hate to say it.. but these are three very different people… except where they aren’t different.

International Media as World Wide Government.
05.25.04 (2:02 pm) [edit]
This article primarily is focused on life in the United States of America but could probably apply to a greater or lesser extent to other democratic nations.
Back in the 19th Century the newspapers of the day were dubbed the ‘Fourth Estate’ of government. The other three were the formal divisions of government the executive, the legislative, and the judiciary. We are now in the 21st Century and one has to wonder, does the media in fact have the power equal to that of the other three estates and not in any way limited by the checks and balances that attempt to keep the three formal estates of government in balance?
Consider the following: Does when and how the media chooses to cover criminal and civil trials have an effect on those trials? If someone could be said to have been ‘Judged in the media’ does that mean they have effectively been denied a fair trial?
Can media coverage of an election significantly change the results?
Can media coverage of events that face our elected legislatures change the results?
Can media coverage of decisions that need to be made by our elected executives change those decisions and how they are made?
I would say that it would be nearly impossible to accurately judge just how much effect the media can have in each of these areas, but I believe that the media does have an effect in these areas.
And now (finally) to the questions that can have interesting answers:
Is the media aware of the effect they have on society?
Do you think they are deliberately and regularly attempting to control facets of our society and government?
Do you think there are any ‘checks and balances’ on the fourth estate? Should there be?
